Our Mission

Arise Culinary Specialists is dedicated to sharing a passion for expertly crafted local food and experiences with our clients. These experiences promote connection through the creation of collaborative and unique events and products. In addition, we offer hospitality and restaurant consulting services that pull from over 30 years of hands-on, diverse experience in the hospitality industry. We offer profit-driven solutions emphasizing personal relationships with employees, guests, and vendors. As part of our creative catering services, we provide several unique opportunities. Early Beginnings: A Spark Ignited

 Geoff Gunn, affectionately known as "Cheffrey," began his culinary journey at the tender age of 13. Working at his synagogue for a Bar-mitzvah, he was mesmerized by the orchestrated chaos of catering. The experience of serving food in an elegant, artistic manner ignited a lifelong passion in him. This event wasn't just a job; it was the first step in what would become a remarkable culinary adventure. 

Hawaiian Chapter: From Salad Artist to Culinary Innovator

Geoff ventured to Hawaii after leaving school behind, where he joined Duke’s Waikiki. Starting humbly as a salad artist and busser, he absorbed every aspect of the restaurant world. His Hawaiian tenure, spanning six years, included stints at Planet Hollywood and the quaint Trilussa at Aloha Marketplace. These experiences shaped his foundational culinary skills and resilience, particularly after recovering from a serious mountain biking accident. 

Los Angeles and Culinary Management

Moving back to the mainland, Geoff's career took a significant turn in Los Angeles. At a small café in Culver City, he plunged into the depths of cooking, catering, and management. His prowess led him to Industry Bar and Grill, where he catered to celebrities and prominent figures, reinforcing his destiny in the culinary arts.

Academic Excellence: Le Cordon Bleu and Beyond

 Geoff's pursuit of formal culinary education led him to Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. Graduating Magna cum Laude as Valedictorian with a Le Cordon Bleu degree in Culinary Arts, he honed his skills, blending traditional French techniques with his unique style. He believes in a culinary philosophy that transcends boundaries, merging different styles and flavors harmoniously. 

Astoria: Finding Home and Honing Craft

 Astoria became Geoff's true home, where he worked in some of the finest establishments in the Northwest. His tenure at Stephanie Inn, Bridgewater Bistro, and Pacific Way Café further refined his culinary identity. His innovative approach and dedication led to recognition by the James Beard Foundation and features in various media outlets. 

Community Involvement and Philanthropy

 Beyond the kitchen, Geoff is deeply involved in his community. Alongside his wife, he volunteers as a CASA advocate. His contributions span from the United Way of Clatsop County to the EDCTC of Tillamook County, earning him numerous awards and nominations for his service.

Arise: Culinary Vision and Community Commitment

 Arise Culinary Specialists is the culmination of Geoff’s journey - a venture to share his profound love for the culinary arts. His vision for Arise is not just about delivering exceptional culinary experiences but also about fostering a sense of community and mutual reflection in the Northwest.
